Nobuaki Tanaka

Nobuaki Tanaka: Founder/President of the Japan Japanese Washi Photo Association

Born in Hokkaido, Japan, 66 years old. Lives and works in Yao, Osaka.

Wife is Yuma Masuzono (Asako Tanaka).

Member of ICOM（International Council of Museums）

Established the Japan Washi Photographic Society with his wife in November 2019.

After more than 50 years of photography, now a photography writer and photography teacher

Creator also involved in book production and printed material design.

He is also actively involved in producer work, working on numerous events, music CDs and CDROM Books, and runs a private publishing company. 

Invented Photo Authoring, a photographic data optimisation technique that covers darkroom theory and plate-making techniques, and gave birth to Washigraph Photo, which uses handmade Japanese paper.

Producing Washigraph Photo (handmade washi paper photographs) for members of the Japan Washi Photographic Society and responsible for the creation of all data.

Establishment of the Japan Washi Photo Association after exhibiting his work as a photographer at the International Council of Museums (ICOM) Kyoto Congress.

Ongoing exhibitions in several museums and galleries in Russia, starting with the Orenburg Museum of Fine Arts, Russia.

By introducing the culture of Japanese paper photography and its mounting to other countries, such as hanging scrolls and folding screens, he is working to establish photography as an art form and to revitalise traditional Japanese craft art.

Influences include Edgar Degas、Gustav Klimt、Amedeo Modigliani 、Nadar、Irving Penn、Richard Avedon、Jeanloup Sieff、Alexey Brodovitch、Sarah Moon、norman seeff and many musicians.

Preparations are underway for the establishment of the International Artists Support Association as a project to introduce non-photographic artists to the rest of the world.
